Audio equipment[RE-wrenches] (and GFIs)

Fiends:

I have an off-grid client with a recording studio.  He started out with a
Heart Interface, but it was unsuitable because of noise both in the power
lines and radiating from internal wiring to guitar pickups.  Guitar pickups
are good little receive antennas.  Even using a battery powered amplifier,
when the inverter was powering the internal studio AC wiring, the guitars
had noise, some more than others.

The neighbor have an SW inverter and allowed a feed to the studio (they
share a penstock for hydro power anyway).  The SW was better but not
perfect.  I had an Exeltech in my service vehicle and we tried it one day.
It was almost perfectly quiet.  I changed to a Statpower and when we tried
it, it too was almost perfectly quiet.   When the clients Heart Interface
died, he purchased a Statpower.

The Statpower 1800 had a ground fault breaker that kept tripping.  I have
had problems with switch legs and other internal house wiring that would
unbalance a hot and neutral ever so slightly, enough to trip a GFI.  I
opened the front cover of the Statpower and found the GFI would not be easy
to remove.  We exchanged the GFI model for one with an AC connection box.

One other problem occurred with the Statpower, the clothes washer would
trip the inverter breaker.  The washer was quite old and it was determined
it was pulling in excess of 35 A on surge.  Our newer washer was pulling
only about 20 on surge.  The client upgraded to a newer washing machine and
is now completely happy.
