Audio equipment[RE-wrenches]

I know the electric synthesizer that my daughter just bought (very nice 
full featured unit) uses a wall wart for power. The input is 12VDC. So I 
would think this would operate off any inverter or direct from the batts. 
Ours is running off our Trace SW, but it's in sell mode, so the power 
quality is (maybe?) not the same as if it was stand alone.

Does anyone know if electric guitars or electric pianos will run off
modified sine wave or if you need a true sine? In light of the SW
compatibility questions of this weekends' discussions I wonder of the
SW would even do it since an electric instrument is a pretty small
loads or if you need  REAL TRUE sine wave.
