Phil,
I tend to agree with you. I bought a SunFrost RF12 about 8 years ago and
have never regretted it. Its a 12VDC model and I have had to keep a 12v
battery bank and PV's dedicated to it after I upgraded to the SW4024 but it
just takes care of itself. Defrost once a year whether it needs it or not
and it quietly does its job. I ran it for years on 3 Kyocera 35 watt panels
but did have trouble during long cloudy periods. I added 2 80 watt Solarex
panels to the 3 Kyoceras and now the batteries never go below 60 or 70%. I
recently gave a client a choice of a SunFrost or a Maytag with calculations
showing similar total cost of frig & PV,s and they opted for the SunFrost.
The numbers are getting closer but the SunFrost is still a better deal in our
sun belt by about 10%. A little more insulation in those commercial units
and they may start to give SunFrost some competition if they can keep the
price down.
