Project Involement Level? [RE-wrenches]

We try very hard, like Kurt and Travis, to design the whole house/building. 
Our background is in large building design, and we've seen too many 
fractured building designs, where architect / engineer / contractor don't 
talk. Too often, the owner only watches the $, and does not know how to 
watch the quality. We try to help, but often, like Travis, get stepped on 
and abused. Generally I can put up with anything a GC can throw, so long as 
I can maintain backing from the owner, which is not always easy, since the 
GC has their ear all the time. I really try to work with the GC's as many 
do know some things I don't, but puch come to shove, we're there for the 
owners.

We call it "holistic engineering", and wish people understood what we meant 
when we said it.

Kurt,

I agree you you wholeheartedly.  I try get my customers that are building a
house to pay attention to what they are doing but often the General feels
like he is getting is feet stepped on so I have to back off and bite my
tongue while they install incandescent lights and don't pay attention to
caulking up the plumbing and electrical penetrations.

How many off us are building the whole house?  How many of us would like 
to?
