John,

Since it is "fairly large system" why don't you look at a dual inverter
system?  Of course a T240 or comparable transformer is quite a bit cheaper
but if the budget allows it, a dual sure solves a lot of problems.  How is
this customer pumping water?

How many other of you do dual inverter systems?  On what percentage do you
do them?  We use them most of the time but most of our jobs are small family
full time residences with little workshops, have wells over 200' deep and we
usually have over 10 kW generators.


That is a very small generator for a SW4048.  Assuming you use the T240 you
might get something like (3900 watts/120v) 32.5 amps.  The battery charger
is going to soak all of that up and leave 2.5 amps to pass through for other
loads.  You'll have around 33 - 37  kwh of storage depending on which type
of L16 you use.  30 amps (4048 Charger Rate) x 115 (the voltage that a small
generator might get pulled down to at full load) v x .7% charge efficiency =
~2400 watts  Assuming 50% DOD then you have around (37 kWh * .5) = you have
18.5 kWh to get back in the batteries but of course you aren't going to
charge them back to 100% with the generator.  16 kWh / 2.4 kW = around 7
hours to get the batteries back to around 80% full which assume you charge
at full rate the whole time by not running any loads in the house.


Everyone please check my math and tell me different if you don't agree with
my numbers.
