Hello Allan,
My humble opinion is the true barrier lies in the one point you wrote re:
the solar thermal panel. The acceptance of PV/RE as main stream products in
the U.S. will come when we can answer this question: Why will a guy buy a
$40,000.00 Rolex watch when he can get the time for free? The answers are
there. We need to make the products/processes of RE "sexy". Not an easy
task, but if it was easy everybody would be in the business. I personally
don't think that subsidies and government programs would have as high an
impact on the demand for RE than a really well crafted process of making RE
much like the color TV of the early 60's. I hesitate to use the word
marketing because of the connotations it brings up of Madison Avenue geeks
trying to come up  with jingles/billboards..... other intellectual pollution
that I personally can do without. We can do the job. Recommended reading
