Hello Mr. Dahl
I believe a Firmware update will be required. Down load the latest Firmware from the OutBack Website onto an otherwise empty SD card. Insert the SD card in the Mate3 then power it up.

If you press and hold the UP button it will force an update. 
After the update is complete it might be a good idea to clear the Internal Data Logs.
Press Lock 
Enter the password 141
select Settings then System
Scroll down to 
Clear Internal Data Log
Then choose yes.
This should get you up and running.

All,

We have a MATE3 on campus that resets each time you press a button to leave the main screen.  For example, we will press the "charger" button followed by pressing the "graph" button, at this point the screen will stall. The other buttons won't work at this point and the MATE will shut off and restart.
