Wrenches,

Tom Lane at ECS Solar Energy Systems asked me to post this information about Gainesville Regional Utilities' feed-in-tariff program requirement. Tom said that a lot of utilities are contacting GRU expressing interest in doing their own FIT. The solar boom continues.

Thank you for requiring a minimal of professional Solar Certification for Licensed Contractors in your Feed in Tariff program.
The electrician should also supply GRU the Roofer's name who would be installing the system on the building roof. Please note that Electricians should also have a roofer pull a permit for their installations. All electricians should list the Roofer and Roofer License number when they are installing Solar Electric modules on a commercial or a residential roof. They are required to have the roofer pull a separate permit or be listed on their contract. Tom Lane

  Subject: FSEC solar certification class

  All:

GRU's new feed in tariff interconnection agreement requires contractors to obtain one of several solar certification paths to be qualified (see below).

We understand that the regularly scheduled FSEC solar installer classes have been filled to capacity, and they have placed some attendees on a waiting list. FSEC has assured us that if we have enough people interested in taking the solar class, they will hold a special session at the end of February or beginning of March to accommodate them.

Please respond back to me if you would be interested in committing to attending a special session of the FSEC solar installers class (http://www.fsec.ucf.edu/En/education/cont_ed/pv/igcpvs/installers.php) and if there is enough interest we will work with FSEC to provide a special session.

(For Reference, Section 3.3 of the Interconnection Agreement:

Owner/Operator agrees that the DGR system, which is the subject of this Agreement, has been or will be installed only by one of the following:

  1. a solar contractor licensed by the State of Florida to install such systems, or

  2. an electrical contractor certified by the Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board, or it's successor AND possessing one of the following:

  (a) solar PV installer certification issued by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), or

  (b) Certificate of completion for the course "Installing Photovoltaic Systems" offered by the Florida Solar Energy Center

A copy of the contractor's training certification or solar contractor's license must be provided to GRU with this Agreement.)

  Thanks
