Non-electric horse waterers [RE-wrenches]

There are several options that are used in Canada.

If they have pressurized water they can use a
Jug Livestock Waterer www.trimlinedesigncentre.com/page.php?60 which
allows water from below the frost line to fill it on demand. It can be
retrofitted with a small 65w heater if necessary

They can also use a Insulated Water Box
www.trimlinedesigncentre.com/page.php?62 which utilized the earth¹s heat as
well as livestock heat to limit freezing. It also has a the option of a
simple 40w light bulb (could be AC or DC)

If pressurized water is not available then they might need a Solar Winter
Waterer www.trimlinedesigncentre.com/page.php?62 which pulls water from a
well or dug out. The cow triggers a mechanically timed switch that turns on
a solar or utility powered pump.

I don¹t have personal experience with them yet but they are in use and if
they work here (-40F winters) they should be reliable in NM.
Good luck,
Rob
