Rinnai boiler controller [RE-wrenches]

I've since discovered from the homeownwer that the controller will shut off
when the generator is running - so it sounds like a similar scenario to your
situation.

Kirk -

I have seen problems with these before as well - they are extremely
sensitive. They seem to work fine on the OutBack inverters but we have
had reports of problems with them when the generator is running and the
charger is pulling power. This customer even turned off the OutBack's
charger and had issues when he connected a IOTA charger to the generator
as well. I think it was a particularly flakey generator - but that
still seems pretty extreme.

We did work up a filter for the customer as a favor to the dealer - who
is not on the wrenches list - but I know it did draw some idle power and
was not particularly efficient. The filter was similar to a ferro /
constant voltage transformer - which are available off-the-shelf which
might work.

Here is a link to some I used years ago with SWs and oil-fired furnace
controllers:

General information - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_regulator

Warning - they do make some noise and get warm all the time they are
on...

I hope this helps!

I have a situation were a Rinnai wall-mounted boiler occasionally shuts
down. Its controller indicates a line frequency error. This is off-grid,
-2-
Xantrex 4048 inverters w/15kw generator backup.

Nailing it down to coincide w/generator turn on/off, load variation,
Xantrex
waveform steps, ect. is close to impossible due to its randomness.
Outside
of dedicating a true sine wave to the boiler, what alternatives are out
there? Its been years since I explored line filters, but as I recall
they
were extremely inefficient and not all that cheap. Thanks.
