problems with Conergy modules[RE-wrenches]

John,

As you pointed out, I don't think it's a secret that we've partnered
with SunTech Power to provide OEM modules for Conergy. Heck, the cells
are marked STP. We intended from the get-go to have them under our
name, but the UL process took far longer than anyone imagined so we did
distribute them under SunTech's name for the first bit. They're the
same size, quality and power tolerance as always.

SunTech Power is one of the largest module manufacturers in the world,
although very few people in the US had heard of them before two years
ago, as most of their production was made under contract for other big
names in our industry. They make a premium quality product, with
exceptional quality control.

As far as the country of origin, I remember when I was a kid everybody
bashed items made in Japan. Now, Made in Japan is a mark of exceptional
quality. While I'm not trying to make excuses for all items of Chinese
manufacture, there are a number of companies in that country that are
trying to do it right, and that are building good product. IMHO given
China's rapidly growing energy needs, the stronger their PV industry
becomes and the
more they embrace photovoltaics over coal the better this world will be.

Jeff,

I don't think that Conergy's use of Chinese suppliers (Suntech) is a
secret at all. They seemed to me to openly tout that fact in the
spring.

We used the Suntech-labeled modules this spring on a couple jobs, and
found them to be first quality, with no shipping related issues. My
understanding was that their shift to Conergy branded modules in
mid-season was simply a relabeling of the Suntechs, but perhaps that is
not the case. Anyone else care to comment on that? I was somewhat
disappointed that, after their talking up Suntech as a long term stable
supplier/partner, they went and changed the module label a month or two
later. Has Conergy gone ahead and changed the design and form factor
as well, or are they still the same exact Suntech modules?
