Battery enclosures and NEC [RE-wrenches]

John,

I believe that the best method for building battery boxes is 5/8th to 3/4" plywood with a fiberglaseed bottom. Plywood is very strong, and is actually very difficult to bring to the point of ignition - especially when compared to thermoplastics.

I have never seen a battery actually "catch fire", but have seen one or two explode (without flames). I have also never had a building inspector make a negative comment about plywood battery enclosures.
