Battery enclosures and NEC [RE-wrenches]

Nik,
NEC 480 covers batteries.
Basically it requires three things.
1)Ventilation
2) Guarding of live parts
3)Working space to conform with 110.26
For most inspectors this is pretty easily done.
That said, some might interpret 110.27 (A) (2) or (3) to mean
lockable to exclude unqualified persons, but in general that means
just a cover over the lead terminals of some meaningful sort. Of
course, an "Authorized Personnel Only" sign on the closed door of the
whole room where the batteries are kept should meet those requirements.
