Outback and gensets was: Selecting an inverter/battery system [RE-wren ches]

HI Jeff
The Aux relay on the Outback has never failed for me,
HOWEVER I have had a gen start control fail, which
left the starter engaged and of course problems. The
outback calls for gen start by closing a set of
contacts, the generator if two-wire-start takes this
as a run signal. Otherwise you must have a gen
start/run interface box.

But what about the balance of the system? The big
problem for most of us on generator based systems is
Gen support. The outback can not do gen support,
meaning in general if you need more power than the
generator can supply, the Outback cannot simply add
power to the generator signal. Note I understand that
Outback has demonstrated gen support in the Lab, but
has not released it yet, and several people have done
it with inverter generators, but you need guaranteed
support. The other thing you can do is use some
outbacks as chargers and some as AC sources. The FNDC
would be a must for this app. Are some of the
outbacks working as chargers and others working as AC
sources?

Good luck sounds like a fun way to lose money.
