SunDanzer Question [RE-wrenches]

Jay,

We've had an 8 cu. ft. freezer unit for 3 years now, we've been running
it off of a small dedicated 12 volt system that's rigged with data
logger monitoring to measure consumption. The unit resides in an
uninsulated shed without any shade: the temperatures inside the shed
range from about 70 at night to 90 during the day, during the hottest
few weeks of summer. (I know, it was supposed to be temporary...)

When running, it draws about 6 amps from the 12 volt batteries. I took
a look at some of the data from different times of the year and here's
a short summary:

Season with 70-90F ambient temps - 400-500 watt hours daily consumption.
Season with average ambient temps close to standard room temperatures =
300-400 watt hours
Season with average ambient temps close to cool basement temps -
250-300 watt hours.
Most of the winter season - under 150 watt hours, some days nothing if
the ambient temps are cold enough.

We keep the thermostat at about 10-15F. The system is powered by 4
SP75s, which is more than needed, but I have a small inverter connected
as well to charge tools and such during the day. Because the system is
solar heavy, I only used 2 T105s. Typical overnight amp-hr draw down
from the batteries is about 10 in the winter, 20 in the summer. People
are amazed when they see the freezer running off that small of a
battery bank.

It's performed flawlessly, we love it, and recommend them heartily.
After what Jeff said, though, maybe we should rig up a thermostat
spider guard of some sort...

Hi All,

I'm curious about what the actual amp usage is with the freezer unit.
( and at how cold)

This would be for my house, 24v.

I am getting that people really like them and at they are working well
and as advertised?

thanks,
jay
