Kurt,

I don't think the requirement for metallic raceway is based on the location
of fusing, if any.  Rather, the requirement for metallic raceway is based on
which Code cycle you are on and the location of the PV DC Disconnect
relative to the building.

If you are on NEC 2002, then you have no requirement for metallic raceway
anywhere.  However, the PV DC Disconnect must be located outside of the
building or inside nearest the point of entry of the DC conductors.

If you are on NEC 2005, you can put the PV DC Disconnect inside, remote from
the point of entry of the DC conductors, but the DC conductors must be in
metallic raceway from the point of entry to the disconnect.

The output (A/C) of the inverter can be installed in any approved raceway or
cable assembly.  PVC (sch 80 if exposed) is an approved method.  The metal
raceway rule only applies to the unfused D/C output of the array.  If you
are installing a high voltage system, the voltage drop is similar for A/C or
D/C. Either way would work.
