Hello Fellow Wrenches,
About to commence installation on a houseboat within the next month
and looking for an elegant solution. It's a 96' brand new houseboat
with all the luxury a boatie could want. The service panel is filled
with large 240v loads that exceed way beyond what the usual RE
system can power. This is not the issue though as the customer has a
large 20KW generator on board to power such loads. I'm planning on
installing an Iota transfer switch to work around the 50 amp pass
through of the dual stack Outbacks so the customer can utilize the
extra 8 KW of generator power. I know it may seem that there is no
way he'll be utilizing more than 12 KW of loads but if you saw the
boat you may change your mind and trying to convince the customer
that capping his 20 KW gennie to 12 KW is not an option. So I'm
wondering if anyone has had much experience with the Iota transfer
switches as all my experience is from their DLS converter/chargers.
Specifically I'm looking for experience with the speed of the
transfer time. A technician at Iota told me that it's 32 milliseconds
which is twice as long as the Outback's if I'm not mistaken. If it
were not for the giant LCD screen and entertainment center I wouldn't
be so worried but I'd rather not have to go back some time in the
future to try another make or model. Anyone have any experience with
the Iota ITS-100R? Think 32 ms is fast enough to keep a home
entertainment system up? Might there be an even longer transfer time
as both the Iota and on board Outback relay will not sync to transfer
at the exact time? Any other favorite brands you think would work
better? The Iota retails for a little less than $600, wondering if I
should look to something else?
