We have been working with North West Energy Storage since 1990. The level of
service is on a par with that of Array Technologies, it is the best. We have
using HUP Solar One batteries since 1995 and have yet to ever have a
replacement or warranty issue, ever. The quantity of replacement distilled
H2O [low], the ease of the fill with the over sized reservoir [largest I
have ever found], the stability of the specific gravity tests which we
regularly perform for 11 customers every 70 to 85 days is consistently even.
The abuse that they handle and still remain even s.g. and strong is
impressive.

I basically sell only HUP Solar One batteries after doing a comparison to
L-16 style batteries years back, which proved that the cost per 50% DOD was
way less per DOD in the long run over the cost of installing and maintaining
and the recycling and reinstalling another set of L-16 style batteries and
the half again. Now the fact that a lot of client's do run to 80% DOD allows
the HUP to really shine, 2100 rated cycles @ 80% DOD. I have clients with
13,520 amp hour - 24 volt banks with 8 pairs of 1,690 amp hour banks. The
specific gravity readings are very even and consistent. We have installed
them in mostly off grid applications and I even have a set in my grid
inter-connected battery backed up office at home. This will run my home and
office for 1 day. I have added water about every 9 months, with the HUPS in
float mode and not very much then.

Ok they are big and heavy, you get what you pay for, and they work and keep
on working. Since I/we all consider batteries the weakest point and also the
heart of a system I want the strongest, longest lasting and easiest to
service battery I can install for my clients. Time speaks loudly to me and
the further I get down the road and all those HUPS are still working fine
the more delighted I am.

Moving them around - We do the Egyptian battery dance! I have a 3 ton single
axle trailer with an overhead gannon I beam with a chain fall setup. I lift
the biggest HUP battery bank at 1690 #'s each and up to 30 KW generators
with no problem and safely to all concerned. As we set it on the ground we
roll the bank [slowly very slowly] on schedule 80 PVC pipe cut up just
barely wider than the battery bank and a Johnson bar to assist with changes
in direction and roll them into place. When we have to go over a tile floor
we lay down a layer or two of 3/4" ply wood to spread the weight. When we do
have to disassemble them it is no worse than moving L-16 style batteries
around, you just need to be smarter than gravity. They come with a strap for
removing the cells if needed.

The metal lid issue - I remove and recycle the lids; I just took back 10
sets of lids and walked away from the recycler with over $140 in my pocket.
All of our battery banks reside in the metal can in a sealed, power vented
battery box with a Plexi-glass lid to allow visual inspection.

10 year warranty - 7 year free replacement and last 3 years prorated, try
finding a better warranty. I have not had to use this ever, and have been
installing these since 1995.

Till someone comes up with a better battery I plan on selling HUP Solar One
batteries. They improve my reputation for happy functioning strong systems
and happy clients. If you have questions pleased feel free to Contact me off
line or even better call Jean and Rob at NWES. They are my heroes in the
battery world.
