I've had excellent luck with the Maha Energy chargers and batteries. There are actually a lot of good ones out there these days. Most comparison tests are made with high current draws (think digital cameras.) If your load is small, most of the published numbers are probably not very useful.
This used to be one of the best resources out there, but it hasn't been updated in about 18 months <http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM> Note that cells rated >2400 mAH usually have much shorter cycle lives.
