Todd,

We upgraded a system from one to two VFX3648s when the customer
commissioned his new well. We installed the system in a shed as the
first step in the construction of his home. Knowing the single inverter
couldn't handle the task of powering a 3HP SQE at 900 ft (as it turned
out to be), we installed the second inverter and an x-240 as a balancer.
We were still a bit nervous at that, but it worked fine and has been
installed for about a year with no issues.

You should be fine with two inverters in your situation. Maybe one could
do the job. You could install an x-240 to get your 240 volts, if that
doesn't go, add an inverter and change the auto-former to a balancing
transformer.

It is a three wire pump... 240 volts (thats why the stacked 3648's),
Gould pump, #8 wire down the hole. The well is 480', static level at
440' (!) so is cannot be downsized to a 1 or even 1.5 HP, plus it is
already installed.

I guess if dual 3648's won't start, it the new/used power panel I just
found out about consisting of two SW2512's would never cut it either
right?

I suppose the Outback folks are drinking beer at MREF... lucky bastards!
