John:
An employee at Fronus did a study of differing orientation arrays. IV
curves stay the same shape at differing light angles, they just become
smaller. Therefore, the MPP of arrays at different orientations is
similar. Their MPP unit tracks the stronger array, but that charge point
will also work pretty darn well with the weaker array. The bottom
line: 1% loss due to differing orientations (plus the loss inherent in any
non-optimal orientation). This study is probably on the Fronius web site,
but if you can't find it I'll scan it and e-mail it to you.
I'd like to see all manufacturers run tests on their particular MPP units
to see if they all act equally well in this situation.
I say go for it!
