We do a lot of supply side interconnections and they are always done in a
main service panel before the main breaker, with the utility meter being in
another location.  Sorry, but I don't have any experience with tapping into
meter/main combo units.  Drilling the main bus bars would reduce the cross
sectional area for current to flow through so I'd be really hesitant to try
that.  I'm sure it would also violate the UL listing of the equipment.
