I would imagine a low-battery alarm just a little above the inverter 
cut-out voltage would be at least as useful to some people, and a lot 
more reliable.  Keeping track of your battery when you are on grid is 
likely to be a minority preoccupation at best.  A loud beep every 
time the freezer kicks in would make you think about energy 
efficiency measures.  As it became more persistent you would take 
whatever steps you need to remain comfortable with what you have left.
