Daryl:
We installed on a flat roof that was composed thusly (described from top down):
Gravel
Mop
Felt
Rigid insulation
Sheeting
Rafters
We obviously could not lag through the rigid foam as it would compress,
loosening lags, causing leaks and generally de-stabilizing the arrays. Our
solution was to saw out insulation down to the sheeting and place 4x8
blocks sideways across two rafters on a standard spacing.
A roofing contractor injected foam around the blocks. Then they cut 45
degree "cant" strips in some kind of material to place around the
blocks. They then cut a roll or membrane roofing to fit around the blocks
and mopped and graveled around the whole thing. We then had solid wood to
lag into. Looked and worked great. I think this applies to your
situation. I can post photos to our web site upon request.
