Travis,
I think you are looking for an anti-scald valve that meets the ASSE 1017
standard. ASSE is at www.asse-plumbing.org. This is for a hot water
distribution system. You'll find most valves you can buy at a plumbing
distributor meet this standard since it is required in many jobs now.
But specifically the Watts 70A series that was common in SDHW systems
for many years is NOT certified, and will not pass any inspection,
besides having a very short lifetime in my experience.
I've recently been using the Honeywell AM100 series, which so far has
been fine, of course our water here in western WA is pretty easy on
plumbing. Many valves including these have teflon coatings on the
working parts to help extend service periods due to scale buildup. There
is a choice of temperature ranges to choose from so you'll need to know
the specification for your project.
