Bob-O,

Safe opening of the fuse holder assumes the polarity is correct on the
source circuits and no ground faults. ;-)

An important safety procedure is to always check the circuit current on the
strings feeding the fuses. If there is reverse polarity or a ground fault,
significant current could be flowing that would burn down the fuse block if
opened under load. With either of these problems, urrents can flow even with
the disconnect open.

If current is flowing, wait until sundown to open the fuses. If you're
impatient, the whole array must be covered with an opaque material (that's
loads of fun).

Bill.

Marco, William and all,
Another option would be to use a small rack mounted fused combiner box
like Energy Outfitters sells in conjunction with a regular H361 at the
inverter or an inverter such as the Fronius or Xantrex which has the DC
disco onboard. That way you've got just one set of conductors coming
down from the roof. Once the big switch is open, the HV touch-safe fuse
holders can be opened safely.
