Where ever did you hear batteries need exercise to be healthy? Do they need a
"low carb" diet too? :)

I think the BEST battery back up grid intertied systems is yes... a wet cell
**lead calcium** battery.
They are designed for shallow cycle float service.
They never need equalizing.
They have LOW self discharge rates.
They use next to no water.

We have had them at our hydro plant constantly being floated, RARELY cycled
(like three times in their 20 year -so far- life) and last a very long time...
20 years and going strong still.

The problem (yes a problem does exist) is they are expensive... I wish Trojan
made an L-16 lead calcium cell rather than lead antimony.
