Hi y'All,
I think David's idea is to just put the zener across one panel, the
zener would have to handle the current of one module, perhaps 7 to 8
amps , in the case of these old modules perhaps much less current.
Another idea is to disconnect the string with a White Rodgers 1609-101
remote bulb thermostat. This is a 22 Amps at 240VAC resistance contact
rating, -30 to 90 F thermostat. Use the close on rise contact, and set
it for the design temperature. The thermostat is $48 @ Graingers, and
has zero current drain. I don't see the outdoor version of that anymore,
so just mount it in a raintite jbox.
