Hey Jim,

For the best performing system, see if you can talk him into going with 
YUASA or IBE industrials with an automatic watering system. The only 
maintenance (on the batteries) involves keeping a large plastic 
container full of water. This takes about five minutes once a month and 
is completely acid-free. This way you get batteries that provide the 
power and performance he will need and a service life of > 10 years even 
in North Texas.
