There are numerous reports and articles about the silicon shortage which will remain a challenge through 2007. For example http://www.solarworld.de/eng/englisch/pages/press/uebereng/photon_10_01.htm Also Photon magazine sponsors a silicon conference to highlight the shortage and encourage solutions. Rumors are that 2005 will be the first year that the +30% annual PV growth will be affected by silicon availability. Keep in mind that rumors are also used to manipulate people and markets. There are people who do not want PV to continue to boom, but that may also be a rumor (yeah, sure).

Hi Jay,
I too would like more information.
As best I understand it, I have no actual source data, there are six
silicon refineries in the world, with 1 or 2 coming on line this year.
Earlier this year there was a rapid expansion of both the semiconductor
and solar PV markets, which led to a supply problem.
That supply problem is supposed to ease this year, but information is
difficult to come by.
I recall tripping over a silicon trading marketplace on the web last
year, but cannot find a current reference for that.
Does anyone else have better information on this subject??
