Thanks to everyone for their input on this.  The customer is dead set on
ignoring appeals to reason.  They do not want a generator.  

OutBack explained that in Darryl Thayer's 3-phase system, the many small
inverters don't all work together as a BIG inverter.  That being the case,
has anyone on the list ever installed a large 3-phase stand-alone system?  

The peak demand at this site has measured as high as 70kW.  Since that was
when the building was under construction, the customer wants to design for a
lower peak, perhaps 60kW and, ideally, have an option to expand later if
necessary.
