3-Phase Commercial off-grid application? [RE-wrenches]

What about a using commercial UPS system? They come in all sizes and 3
phase voltage configurations. The other side of my company maintains a
factory's emergency lighting system that is backed up by a ~100 kW (at
least) battery based unit.

Check with your local electrical distributors. They can put you in touch
with the factory reps.

I doubt these units could grid tie to sell the excess solar back. But in
case the customer does want to do grid tie still perhaps you could use
Outback's for the grid tie part. Similar to using a dump load on an off
grid system but instead of heating up a water heater with excess energy
you're sending it back to the grid.

It's probably a bad idea but maybe it's worth mentioning.

Good Luck,

Thanks to everyone for their input on this. The customer is dead set on
ignoring appeals to reason. They do not want a generator.

OutBack explained that in Darryl Thayer's 3-phase system, the many small
inverters don't all work together as a BIG inverter. That being the case,
has anyone on the list ever installed a large 3-phase stand-alone system?

The peak demand at this site has measured as high as 70kW. Since that was
when the building was under construction, the customer wants to design for a
lower peak, perhaps 60kW and, ideally, have an option to expand later if
necessary.

Much obliged for your expertise,
