Jay and Jeff,

Right and not so right. Additives are available for long-term Diesel=20
storage that prevent the growth of algae, and even break up existing=20
globs of gorp that might have developed over time. Secondarily, the=20
addition of a Racor or other good make of filter/water separator will=20
prevent any problems with your genset - at least fuel-related ones.=20
Check out PT Fuel Oil.

I don't know if this stuff will also work with Bio-fuels, but I imagine=20
that the Bio Diesel websites will have plenty of info about it.

The biggest problem area for long-term storage of Diesel fuel is in the=20
marine world, where high humidity, high temperature swings and partially=20
full tanks lead to excess condensation water contamination. It's really=20
the water in the fuel that leads to the algae growth, or so I've been=20
told by guys at the fuel docks.
