HI Jeff,

The problem with storing Diesel ( even normal petrol diesel) for long  
periods is that there are problems.

Diesel grows bugs, so you need to treat the fuel for algae.

Moisture forms in the tank, causing rust and water to clog the fuel  
system.

The diesel fuel as it evaporates leaves some pretty good deposits,  
which can be a problem as well.

Yes the gensets can run every month, but it won't really take care of  
the above problems in the long haul.

Its the reason that you don't see diesel gensets as really long term  
backup.  If they run often enough then yes you'll be OK.

But I would stick with propane for such a system.  The more they use  
it, the more diesel/bio  makes more sense.
