I tried it with 4 sections of EMT and a gin pole. It was like spagetti,
I never realized conduit could bend like that.
I found an older radio operators tower in 6, 7 ft sections piled behind
a barn. The operator (ham) had replaced it with a bigger one. I got it
for the taking.
It was easy to extend that lattice tower with the same EMT for a final
height of 65 ft. There are a few detailed photos at
http://countryroad.us/ but none really show the simple method I used to
attach the pipe to the tower. 1/8th inch steel guys, 3 x 3 worked thru
some big winds for almost 2 years.
