Hi Travis. The one I purchased was not military surplus. The eBay listing said they were built for telecomm purposes. I do not know why they did not work out, but they are industry surplus, not military.
These are propane generators. Here is a link to one that is for sale right now. This guy must have a bunch of them, as there always seems to be one listed.

I have not done anything with mine, installing it in my system is going to be a major project, and is on the back burner for now. Plus, I am looking at changing my system voltage.
BTW, I have not needed my AC generator once this winter. Lots of sunshine, even here in coastal redwoods country.
