Drake,
   They can go to the positive bus bar.  The only reason they call for direct 
connection to the battery is to show the most precise battery voltage but I 
find that there is usually very little difference between the two points of 
connection when you consider a 2/0 or 4/0 power run and a meter with .1v 
resolution.
