Finally some success on finding an affordable transformer to get a small 
amount of 240 VAC from a 120 volt source.  It is a 1 KVA unit for $125.  It 
weighs 17 pounds and comes in a metal box about the size of an air 
conditioner disconnect.  It is from Jefferson Electric and the part # is 
411-0071-000.
