I have a Fantech HRV without built in fans, I installed two Fantech 19
watt (120vAC) fans on the in and out. I then put in a 3 speed switch and
run them on the lowest speed. I figure I'm using about the smallest
electrical load of any HRV. I run it on a timer for 6 periods per day,
for a total of about 8 hours per day. It's hard wired so I haven't put
my Kill-a-watt meter on it. It does wonders for indoor air quality and
keeping the indoor humidity down (heating only climate). I get lots of
condensate when it's cold out.

I can't say that I'm really impressed with the Fantech HRV however. It's
core is Coroplast polypropylene honeycomb layers about 1/4" thick all
glued into a block with each layer 90deg to the other. The quality and
heat exch. efficiency are so-so seems to me.

I'm not sure if you can get any other HRV's without the fans built in
though. I got my Fantech stuff from www.hvacquick.com, good service.
