The code rules pertaining to PV equipment have followed a progression
(really a regression) toward complication, excessive cost, and needless
restrictions IMHO.

Such a restriction on mod sine solar inverters would be just another
example. If enacted, it will force some people to switch to more costly
sine wave inverters (that may not be needed) and result in some
other people switching to cheap generators.

The UL issue with the Xantrex SW inverter and GTI resulted in zero real
safety benefit, yet created significant new costs, inconvenience, lower
power quality from the product, and arguably a less safe situation
(more components and wiring = more opportunities for error or failure).

Who else [from the PV industry], beside John Wiles, is participating in
the NEC code making process for article 690? It seems that there is a
need for other voices...and more scrutiny over existing provisions and
future components.
