Yup, and they are very resistant to put in anything other than the pumps
they buy in VERY large volumes and wiring methods they deal with daily.
They are not "into" 120 volt pumps, and many times I have had well
drillers tell my clients that a 120 volt pump will only pump half of
what a 240 volt pump will (of the same HP).  

Part of it might be the wire size they have to deal with, and I always
tell my customers that they should tell their well drillers/installers
that they understand it might cost a little more to have a 120vac pump
installed.  This can go a long way towards good communications up front.
