Hi Ray,
I knew that it was theoretically OK to use 2/0 with 48 volt SW's but have
always been under the assumption that 4/0 was a requirement for the others.
This goes all the way back to SW's #0006 and 0007 that I put in back in the
stone age up to the last pre-Outback install. But then I re-read your
original message!
I guess I've been so out of touch with Brand X that I assumed you had
mis-typed the model #. If this inverter is indeed only rated at 2500 Watts
then 2/0 should be fine, but the only SW rated that low USED to be the 12
volt model.
My question SHOULD have been: Why aren't you using Outbacks? ;-)
Even a good running 4000 Watt SW will exhibit crappy performance when
starting a 1 kW submersible pump (if it starts at all). I think the problem
is that the inverter is just too small for the job, but it should run a
Staber just fine. Unless it won't. See the previous paragraph.

Hi Matt;
The manual says 2/0 to 5 ft, 4/0 to 10 ft. I'm cheating by a foot or
two.
The 175 A at 24 VDC draw is 0.1 second peak from the circular saw; it is
not anything close to continuous run amps. Battery bank is 8 L-16s. DC
voltage at rest is 24.6v, surge drops the voltage to 23.2. Again, that is
a
0.1 sec minimum. I have always noticed batteries pull down like that for a
second on start up surges.
I'm going to change the cable to 4/0, but I don't think that is going to
fix it. I have a few of these SW + inverters installed with similar
complaints of lights flickering, etc when an inductive load comes on. They
all have 4/0 cable BTW.
