Wrenches,

This came in via e-mail. I haven't spoken with him or seen his system; don't
even know what state he's in. I haven't a clue about his problem. Any ideas?

Allan at Positive E

Last fall I purchased through Backwoods Solar a variety of equipment to set
up an off grid electrical system. The main components are listed below. A
local civil engineer who has his own system and electrician set it up for
me. Since installation I have experienced some trouble for which neither the
installers, nor Xantrex have an explanation. I have retrieved your name from
the back pages of the Backwoods newspaper and I am contacting you and others
with the hope that you may be familiar with the trouble I am experiencing
and can offer some advice. The system is comprised of a generator, two
inverters series stacked, and a battery bank. The trouble that I am
experiencing is this: during either charging or equalizing I find that
periodically the non-generator controlling unit is switching to Float before
the time set for the Absorption Time period is expired. It has happened a
number of times at different times during charging or equalizing functions.
No one seems to understand why this unit seems to override or ignore the set
absorption or equalizing times. Some have suggested that it is defective.
Before going to the trouble of removing the unit and shipping it back to
Xantrex for lab analysis I thought I'd plumb the knowledge base of the off
grid community to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. If
you have anything to offer to me I sure would appreciate it. Thank you for
your consideration and reply.

Sincerely,

Tim Gartland
