Voltage limiting w/ C40 [RE-wrenches]

I discovered today that at 30+ volts (first really sunny day in a
while), my March 809HS-24v loses its magnetic coupling to the pump
rotor. This has a big adverse effect on my heating system. In talking
with March they indicated that this can happen as low as 26 or 27 volts
if the head is higher than I'm running. So my question is; can a regular
old Trace C40 (they made voltage limiting versions of it for a while) be
used as a voltage limiter? I think there was some discussion in the past
about using regulators as wind turbine voltage limiters, but I didn't
follow it. This would be a less demanding use I think. Any potential
problems with interference with the Tristar PV regulator or inverters?
Would it get wired with battery input into the PV lugs and the load on
the battery lugs? Other options besides changing pumps?

Thanks,

Brad Bassett
