Hi Bill,
The software guys at CCEnergy have a simple spreadsheet template that
quantifies shading using the Solar Pathfinder.
Each cell in the range represents the insolation for each hour of each 
month as depicted in the pathfinder grid. Just open an instance of the 
spreadsheet and delete the values which are in the shade pattern as 
depicted by the pathfinder.
Shading losses can be calculated by hour, month, summer/winter and annual.
A macro can populate the grid with the lattitude needed for each instance.
We also use some weather data for each city to adjust for cloud cover.
The tool takes just a couple of minutes to input (delete) the shading 
from the pathfinder.

For information on radiant infrared emissivity, infrared absorbtion, 
radiant insulation etc. the Handbook for the Radiant Insulation 
Manufacturers Association(RIMA) linked below is a good text.
