To be totally nit-picky it was delivering about 21% more current to
batteries than either of the other inverters mentioned.

Just to clarify what Ezra said - the VFX2812 was producing about 30% 
more DC amps from the generator than the SW+2512 or ProSine 2.0 - which 
was causing his generator's voltage and frequency to drop. The default 
lower limit on the OutBack inverter/chargers is set at 100 VAC - which 
is low (but it can be user adjusted).  Turning down the MAX INPUT AMPS 
setting (default of 60 amps) backed off the charger to what the 
generator could deliver. The charger in the OutBack inverters can 
deliver full rated current from as low as 90 vac input.
