Need help selecting an inverter [RE-wrenches]

Daryl,

Telephone alerts:

Nobody else has responded to this question, so here's my cheap and cheerful
method. I have used burglar alarm autodialers on unmanned wind turbines and
hydro turbines to alert me (or the operator) to problems. The ones I use
cost less than £100 and have three input lines, so they can call a sequence
of telephone numbers until someone answers (or an answering machine) and
then leave one of three pre-recorded messages. I haven't tried it with an
inverter, but it should be easy to set up an aux relay to pulse an
autodialer input.

This only works with a landline, though I have a feeling you can now get
burglar alarm autodialers with cellphone modules in them.

Also, have you ever wanted to be able to remotely reset equipment? I have
had great results with "phoneswitches" which plug into a mains socket and
can be used to turn on or off a domestic appliance, or in my case,
temperamental wind turbine. Again less than £100.

Autodialers may not be a sophisicated solution but I know some of Britain's
biggest windfarms use them as their main alert systems! They are far more
reliable (and cheaper) than a PC-based monitoring/dialer system.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Charlie
