A few more gallons? [RE-wrenches]

Matt,

YOU SAID:
Are you running the pump at 12 or 24 volts? One thing that'll happen if you
run on battery is that the flow will diminish (compared to solar-direct
because the max voltage level will be limited by the batteries. How about
dropping another shurflo down the hole to increase your daily output?

You can't use the pump controller if you're running off battery power.

MY RESPONSE:
Thanks. We're running a nominal 24-volt PV-direct system. Yep, I figured the
controller wouldn't be of much use with a battery-driven SHURflo 9300.
Interesting idea to drop another unit down the hole. I'm a bit concerned
about getting in too deep (hehe) on this--i.e., a second pump--until we see
what other folks might suggest. The polls are open.

Windy,

YOU SAID:
The Shurflo is simply not a long-life pump. With a longer duty cycle, it
won't last more than a few years between rebuilds, and they can be dubious.
It will cost the customer more in the long run than ... than ... I
think you know what I'm getting at! Get a long-life pump and keep away from
batteries.

Thanks, too! Your point is well taken that the SHURflo sub pump isn't the
best. The initial budget was tight, and this is the only SHURflo I've
dropped, other than my own, so I don't have a track record with these units
(other pumps include a couple Grundfos SQ's and one of your ETApumps). I do
have one client who dropped his own SHURflo 7 years ago and has never
overhauled it, and it continues to run fine. Not a good idea, I told him.
Just one point on the graph, too, I know.

At this site there's a SHURflo down the hole now, and it works well. We'll
likely consider all options when it eventually fails. For now I'm looking at
how we can run what we've got (with prudent additions) for more hours in the
summer.

I look forward to hearing some more WRENCHing ideas in the next few days!
How about it folks?

Thanks,

Gary
