SW4048 remote start query [RE-wrenches]

We have had similar problems with Kohler 10 RYs. Some of them where
very new even. I do not service Onan, so I am not sure what errors the Onan
has, and what causes them, but I wonder if the "Cold Start Error" refers to
over speed. The Kohlers have trouble starting, because the cold weather
causes the generator to over speed. This over speed condition immediately
puts the generator into a fault mode, after the generator enters fault mode,
the generator must be reset manually. We have found that the SW inverters
have a hard time walking over to the generator and manually resetting it.
This error condition is quite annoying because it commonly leads to power
outages.
The way that we deal with this situation is by adjusting the over speed
error pot, which is located in the control panel above the breaker panel on
the Kohler 10RY. This adjustment prevents the generator from going to
error.
Another solution we have discussed was to provide power to the block
heater 20 minutes every morning, controlled by a timer and a switch. The
timer could be programmed to turn the block heater on in the morning, just
before the SW inverter brings the generator out of quiet time. (We have
found that the problem is predominately occurring in the mornings.) As a
secondary control, the owner is given a switch that allows him seasonal
control of the block heater.
