Reroofing and installation time. [RE-wrenches]

If you install conventional roof stand-offs initially, you can re-roof around
them in the standard way, but sometimes you have to remove and re-install the PV
system. We designed and installed a 24 kW PV system on a Sacramento church as
part of a SMUD PV Pioneer contract. The Solec 80-watt modules were
shop-assembled and pre-wired into 7-module panels. The panels were fastened
directly to the roof plywood sheathing with wood screws. Four 6 kW Omnion
inverters and John Berdner's combiner boxes were used. Three years later, the
congregation wanted to re-roof their church. I hired a local, black-owned,
licensed electrical contractor with no PV experience and trained his crew
on-the-job (and paid union scale because SMUD is also practices affirmative
action and pays scale). The electricians removed the panels, c-boxes, j-boxes,
conduit and wire in 1 day and stacked the materials on the ground next to the
building. The roofer re-shingled the building and the electricians re-installed
the panels and wiring in 3 days.
Best regards,
